Its most conservative by default that every other school in the area is extremely liberal. Its religiously conservative, but has to have some liberal families if its in the DMV.

Is the Heights school anti-gay?

What matters is matriculations in the past year. If they don't share that list, there is probably nothing to brag about. This list is a compilation of multiple years...who knows how many!! And it is acceptances, which means one student could be getting accepted to multiple ivies. Very deceiving.

What matters is that students go to a good school that feeds their minds, bodies and spirits. What matters is that students learn the value of things like discipline, community and - wait for it - humility.

Take that last word and hold it next to your matriculation lists and Niche ratings and tell me what you see.

This thread is as silly and unseemly as the DCUM-coined “big 3.” That is, if you have any sense of the goals of Catholic education.

Wow, why so hostile? I was just explaining how misleading some of these lists can be. Our kids went through K-12 in Catholic schools, and I agree they are all wonderful, but if you are aiming for a top 20 school, some high schools do a better job preparing the students for those schools than others.

That is simply not true.

Post 11/11/2022 16:15     Subject: Re:What are the Greater DC "Big 3" Catholic Schools?

To further dispute the poster who claims Catholic schools do not feed to ivies, here is 3 years of Stone Ridge matriculations with USNWR top 20 schools bolded. Parens represent number of students if more than one. So in three years, 49 matriculated to top 20 schools. The rest of the list is not too shabby either.

I would suspect many of the other great Catholic high schools would have similar lists.

Please stop spreading misinformation abut these fine schools.

None of these Catholic schools are Ivy “feeders”. They usually send a few kids to Ivy League schools and many of them are recruited athletes.

Catholic high schools have an advantage at Catholic colleges. They have established relationships with these schools and long histories. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Jesuit colleges like Georgetown and BC view the applications of students from Jesuit high schools favorably.

And Catholic families are connected to Catholic universities and will frequently choose them over Ivies because of this relationship/ tradition.

This. My son chose ND over an ivy.

I think this type of decision will take place more and more frequently as the reputation of the Ivies for "wokeness" and intolerance for other views spreads.

Besides, the whole Ivy League admission system is under intensifying attack. They aren't going to be able to use Race soon. And then legacy will fall and maybe even athletic prowless.

Can you help me understand how this will be enforced? I haven’t been super tuned in on scotus review. Even if it’s ruled you can’t use race for AA, how can anyone force a private school not to take into account relative factors (like “unofficially” scoring a minority higher on an interview and making that interview count more than GPA and standardized testing)? Aren’t there still ways to incorporate advantages to qualified URMs?

Once they accept those Federal dollars they have to play by Federal rules.

They’ve already tried something like you suggest they might by the wholesale down grading of the “personality” scores of Asia
N applicants.

What they have put in place is a blatant quota system with different rules for different races. The “dodges” they will attempt to use to continue it will be increasingly transparent.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 says it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race!
