Probably 50% of the time, and always when watching British shows.

I got used to closed captioning when I was spending a lot of time visiting my parents. I don't use it all the time but I do find it helpful. My DS (11) likes it too and almost always has it on.

Not anymore but my sister was born deaf so we always had CC on growing up. I honestly don't even notice when its on because it looks normal to me. My husband finds it so distracting but will of course turn it on if my sister is over. As soon as she leaves, he turns it off.

I personally think we have gotten used to the clarity of wearing earbuds while watching movies and unless you have a sound bar and surround sound the TV speaker will be muffled. And music/explosion too loud.

This is interesting. I thought I was the only one.

Yes. I’m good at ignoring them when I don’t need them and using them when I do. So they’re on most of the time.

I thought I was the only one who did this! (apart from the hearing impaired of course).

I use it and love it! I keep it at normal volume, but I have unilateral hearing loss due to otosclerosis-so reading the words helps me not miss or mis understand anything. Also keeps me from turning up the volume to annoying levels.

It really does help me, but my teens turn it off when they are watching tv. They have good hearing.

Same for me. I need the volume to be very loud in order to not have to "work" to hear the words and listen, but that is too loud for my family. Captions help me keep the volume lower, though it does mean I have to concentrate to read and pay attention so I can keep up.

Yes, almost always. We watch a lot of foreign series ( serieses?) and lots of mumbly Brits.

I think people are responding to someone calling a necessity for many people with disabilities a distraction and surprising that people would actually use it.
