I came here to answer basically the same thing that PP said. St Johns County is the best and those are great neighborhoods.

Check out the data denier. You need to look at 2022 test scores. Note you see FL at the top of the list and need to check on “see more states” to see MD and VA. And scroll allll the way down to the bottom to see DC. Thank goodness for NM or DC would be last.

I’m not PP, but I recently moved to DC from Fl. We did charter for MS and public for 9th (HS ranked around 1200 on US News). MS was quite good, Ds took algebra 1 and was quite well prepared for HS. HS offered all the advanced courses of a DC public. DS took AP HG freshman year, algebra 2 and all honors courses. He was well prepared for DC private, and still takes most rigorous course load.
Academically, if you have a kid that can excel at a “teaching to the test” environment, your Dc can do well in Fl, and it’s likely get a free ride to college via bright futures program. Not all the teachers are good/qualified, but I think that’s probably true at most big public HS?
There lots of reasons to not move to Fl, but academics shouldn’t be one.

I posted here because the input would be from a perspective of people who have atleast lived in the DMV at some point in their lives vs a Florida board filled with lifelong Floridians. Looking for a different perspective. For example, if you are from here you would compare FL schools differently and could comment that public is going to work there. I know I have read several posts on DCUM from people that have relocated or suggested Florida as a place to relocate to.

This is 1000% the wrong time to be moving there with kids.
In public school the teachers are leaving in droves they are scared of DeSantis. It is not going well in schools. Banning of books is crazy not to mention teachers are being fired for the most absurd things. Racist and Nazism are growing and in the public schools getting worse by the day.

Clearwater on the West coast
Stay away from Naples, Fort Meyers, Lakewood Ranch, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale. Delray, Miami
Private schools suck in Florida do not pay for them please. American Heritage would be your best bet that is on the east coast.
Public schools change districts like crazy there. Also, DeSantis is going to privatize schools. That means you will need cash in the budget for better schools that might be far from your home.
