My kid graduated from CAP. Loved science too and for college doing science major.

what's the girl: boy ratio?

Maybes you should ask girl:boy:non binary ratio! It’s all in flux these days.

I was at the Open House last night, and judging purely from the kids who came on a week night to "present" the program, I'd say 70:10:20, give or take.

The Open House was extremely well presented, and both the students and the teachers made a strong case for CAP. I appreciated that they laid out the thinking behind some of the decisions they had made around different curriculum decisions, including not adopting APUSH for next year's 9th graders and moving away from recommending AP Physics in 9th. They didn't foreclose the option, but they did explain why they would advise kids to ease the transition from middle to high school.

Leaving because the workload is too much is different than a change in the program’s overall quality.

The student we know who left CAP was not because she didn’t like it, but was because the workload was just too intense for her. She liked the program, but was just too maxed out and stressed. She is happy to be out, but still misses the cohort.

The 9th grader I know (well) in CAP loves it.

Yes. Not all magnet programs are countywide. It stopped being 1997 some time ago...

One teacher left this year because of retirement.

I am sure there are kids every year who decide not to continue the CAP program. It is a lot of work, and a longer day because of the extra period. My kid only knows one kid who “disappeared” everyone else in his cohort is still there.

They doubled the size of the CAP program last year to make the numbers in line with the Math/sci magnet. My student is a 9th grader and likes the program. Really likes the 9th grade English teacher. My kid says there seems to be a lot of non- humanities type kids in it this year, but he came from Eastern, so may be used to that. He likes it overalll and has no complaints about any of the 9th grade teachers. Really likes the interdisciplinary projects, but wishes they would stop requiring history day. He got burned out on that at Eastern.

Is this true? Anyone? Can you elaborate?

If you're not getting in real life evidence of this remember that some people use DCUM to talk down programs in the hopes of getting a spot off the waitlist.
