I’m sure people will eventually find a reason to be offended by numbers as well
The letters would absolutely be offended, not to mention the special characters.
Is anyone actually offended by the school names or is this just something mcps cooked up.

There. Everything solved. No more racism and no more us versus them. All better now.

Anonymous wrote:I can see renaming schools like Lee since that guy was a traitor who fought for slavery, but the rest seem like a bit much. Anyway, I'm all for removing confederates from the schools but we're going a bit overboard here. Maybe save the $$$ and use it for things like teachers.

Once John Poole gets changed, I’m sure their will be pressure to change Poolesville too. If you are against the renaming and you speak about it publicly you could lose your job etc. You can’t win unless you are pro naming a school after a person who is part of a minority group.
At this point, how many people really know who John Poole really is? It’s just a name.
Renaming Blair is absurd.
A lot of this is absurd.
Poolesville HS isn't really named after Poole. It's named after the town, which is named after the Poole brothers (John and Joseph), according to Wiki. I don't see the HS name changing, even eventually.
Richard Montgomery didn't own the slaves. His wife's family did. I do think this name will change because he's guilty by association.
Montgomery Blair.... Sigh. I would not be surprised if this name changes because people are idiots.
They're not going to rename Montgomery Blair. I live nearby and no one in the community is pushing for that.
Here's the problem with this logic. BOE has not acted in the past based on community input with regard to selecting names for new schools. BOE picks the name they think is "best".

Look guys, he switched from “right wingers” to “far-right shills.” It’s the third one I’ve read today….
It’s fascinating that anyone who holds a different opinion is assumed to be “right wing.” As if liberals can’t have a variety of viewpoints.
That's true, but when "liberals" are espousing far-right talking points, it's a strong indication they're not actually liberal.
So it’s true - liberals have rules they must follow. Never ever agree with anything the right says. And if you agree with the far-right? Then you’re out. You must turn your liberal card in immediately.
