I don’t like the dress or black at weddings, but think it is perfectly acceptable to opt for a neutral, somewhat bland look. The people that stand out in a bad way are the ones wearing over the top sequins or outdated formal gowns. if you’re going to make a bold statement you really have to make certain every element is on point- no cheap, gold teetery heels or evening bags from the 80s( unless you’re like 23.)

Black is okay for a wedding IF the dress couldn't just as easily be worn to a funeral. This is a funeral dress. It's very modest in length and style, is a solid wall of black,and has no bling or embellishment. I think even with colorful accessories it would still look too somber.
Since you've lost weight, treat yourself to a new dress in a fall color I find that stores like TJMaxx and Burlington have decent-enough quality for low prices.
