Top “hot” schools per friend - regardless of ranking - are Rice, Wake, Vandy, and Duke

kids seem to really like Wake

The funny thing about this thread is no matter what the opinion is of the naysayers, Wake is a hot school right now. A lot of kids are attracted to its of good academics, nice weather, manageable size, social reputation, and top ranked sports.

to be fair, as an alum - it is very white. I didn't think much about that while I was there. But the large majority of the students of color were football or basketball players. I do have several friends that I am connected to on social media who speak about the hidden racism there, which pains me because these are people I like and respect who were classmates of mine. I hate that their experience wasn't the same because of the color of their skin.

Honestly, this is why we are trying very hard to find a more diverse school for our children. They have grown up in a neighborhood/school where being white was actually the minority. My younger child just had a birthday party and one girl was white, one hispanic (mother from columbia) and the last indian. We love the diversity of this area and really hope that the colleges they choose have a much larger population of POC/1st gen than Wake did.

Don't get me wrong, Wake really is a great school and I enjoyed my 4 years and have a wonderful group of friends from there. But diversity is NOT its strong point.

I think that DP was being facetious. Wake Forest is widely known for being extremely white. Not a good or bad thing, just how it is.
