My DC went to FHS got an excellent education had a great 6 years there. Flew through college. Great experience overall. There is really no comparison to FCPS. We found FCPS to be a very slow overwhelmed school system. It was a huge relief to leave.

It’s odd because a lot of parents whose kids are thriving in FCPS have seen kids who were slow and overwhelmed in their kids’ classes end up at Flint Hill. It may be a good match for those kids, but let’s not pretend Flint Hill is even at the level of an Oakton or Langley academically. It’s not.

We got a meth addict in the chat.

That’s the level of your discourse? No surprise given the overall mediocrity of your school.

They have those at FH?

I have a kid in the upper school. They have very advanced classes for very advanced kids. Lots of Nysmith students go here. My kid is sporty and academically average, they have classes and sports for him. Some kids are artsy, they have an amazing arts, dance, and theatre program. Their robotics program is top notch, they beat colleges in competitions. Their latin department is the best in the region.

They have students from Maryland, Alexandria, DC, all over Northern Va. It's exceptionally diverse which matches the diversity of the areas the students come from.

Do I care how the school came to be? No. We all live in America right? We all know how this country came to be. It's not stopping you from living here.

This!!! And yes, incredible robotics program that wins competitions against big name college teams. Incredible classics/Latin department. Wonderful visual and performing arts. Athletics for top athletes and for the less athletic kids. We have a 9th grader and are very happy! There seems to be one really bitter person posting on every. single. thread about Flint Hill. I am thankful that whoever she is, she is no longer a parent at the school!

NP. I am a parent of a current student at Flint Hill. I agree that some of the negative comments on this site are extreme, but many of them are accurate. We choose FH because we live out in Loudoun, and we can't commute in any further. FH is ok, but it wasn't our first choice.

If they don’t have a student at FH then they would fall into the not parents of FH students category. Obviously.

If they are a former parent of a student there, why not say that and share their experience? I don’t see that here. Just a ridiculous number of posts that are clearly fueled by some sort of weird hysteria against FH with nothing to back it up.

This conversation has jumped the shark
OP...visit the school..ask admissions to speak to families about their experiences..they will give you a few. Do not take advice from DCUM..the vitriol is horrible if its not a "Big 3 or 5" or whatever. Honestly I am so glad my kids are not at these "top-tier" schools who take only a certain type of academic kid and they all have to compete against each other. Remember they are used to being at the top of their class and someone has to be at the bottom only increasing anxiety and pressure among those students. I would think about that and those schools who focus on the whole student vs. focus on the academics. Also, keep in mind around college admissions time many of these posters are also complaining about the fact that their "elite" school didn't guarantee a spot in specific elite colleges. The world is a bigger place than the Big 3 and 5. Good luck on the HS search!!!

I care how FH came to be. I live in this country because, like most people who are born, raised and educated here, I chose the path of least resistance. However, avoiding FH is VERY easy. It’s extremely simple to avoid paying $48,000 annually for an aggressively mediocre segregation academy. I would be embarrassed to send my children to FH for free. I can’t imagine paying for that humiliation.

But to each his or her own.

You sound hysterical.
Therapy helps.

No therapy needed. I just avoid having my children educated in segregation academies. Result: peace and harmony.

Yes, we know that people who need therapy are often in denial. Must be hard for you. Hugs.

Parents or non-parents? You mean how can I tell if the poster is a parent of FH students or one that’s not?

I feel kind of rude having to point out the obvious but since you asked-the ones saying ‘I have a kid at FH or a kid in the upper school..’then sharing their experience are parents of students at FH.

The ones saying they would not send their kids there, are not parents of students at FH.

Or perhaps parents who were formerly at the school?
