“On 19 September 1998, while leaving for the ranch where she kept ponies, the Rover 400 she was driving collided head on[9] with a Renault catering truck on a two-lane highway in flat countryside, reportedly driving at 199 km/h. The driver of the truck, Jose Maria Rodriguez, a close friend, suffered a broken ankle, but Barrantes was not wearing a safety belt and was decapitated and killed, aged 61.[9] Barrantes' nephew, then 25-year-old Raphael, was in the car and was later hospitalized with minor injuries until the next day. Barrantes was previously involved in a road traffic accident the year before when her car flipped an estimated seven times.”
Strange!
And yet they waited until 1998? Bad luck!

HOWEVER, I believe the Queen absolutely knew Diana would die. She effectively signed off on her death when she did not order Scottland Yard to protect Diana after the divorce. Diana was childlike and naive in many ways, and when she got divorced she declined security (probably because she just wanted to be done with the royals). The queen could have ordered her protection but didn’t. Diana then went on a giant media campaign to make her Pakistani ex-boyfriend jealous by flaunting her relationship with Dodi. So I think it was a perfect storm, but the queen knew it was going to happen and had zero interest in stopping it from playing out.

Those dumb dumbs really have a problem with brown babies don’t they
They wouldn't have been royal so why would "they" care anyway? Diana was a floozy at that point in her life making bad decisions. Like not wearing a seatbelt in speeding cars.
…trying to think of the last time I heard the word floozy.
There are a limited number of words that would convey the point and not be too offensive. My bet is if Diana was still alive she'd be on her 4th or 5th marriage by now and lost the respect of a lot of people. She died at a time just as things were going south but people remembered her at her best. But she was on a very self destructive path at the time.
I'm reminded of the You're Wrong About episode in which they mention how upset Tina Brown seems to be that Diana liked sex. She's been dead for 25 years -- do you really think she would have gotten married and divorced every five years?
I can see how she might have gotten married again, and she seemed both charming and needy, so I can see how a marriage wouldn't last, but even emotional wrecks should get to have sex without judgment if they want to

While it's possible someone could have deliberately hit them, the reality is those two factors are what caused their deaths: they would have lived if they had buckled up!
