Subject: White tie early in the day?
I would need to attend this wedding just to watch the train wreck. Its funny to watch people putting on airs, and doing it oh-so-incorrectly.

Tuxedos are not white tie. A dinner jacket is black tie.
White tie is different.

Now that you know that it is White Tie and and Tails, it is permissible for women to wear tiaras.

Well, OP, now you've gotten over your social anxiety and called the host, you know what's expected!
Enjoy the wedding. I'm sure it'll be lovely.
Please note that I got married in my family's 18th century castle... with a farm on the grounds. The venue might actually be appropriate for white tie, even though the timing is creative.

Good Lord, people, its a wedding -- they can do it anyway they want. Maybe they wanted white tie memories, but could only get the venue for daytime. So what? Only an ogre would mock them for this. It's a wedding.

The fact that OP has pointedly ignored people’s helpful suggestions shows me that she just wanted to show off her $2K dress, and she’s miffed that more people didn’t just fawn all over it. It’s pretty, but it’s nowhere near formal enough to cover the bases if other people are dressed up.
She also is trying to judge people and get pile-on for these relatives making such a faux pas (and implying their standard for "fancy" was a BBQ at her home, when they were probably being gracious guests).
