It's a gorgeous community, kids have freedom to run around and play, not a busy area, great schools, walking distance to both DC shopping and brookville market area if you're in need of something quickly. Alot of families are very wealthy but honestly anyone buying a 1M+ house is well off in my opinion so that's the entire area. The families we've met, while many belong to chevy chase country club or send their kids to private schools are very kind, welcoming and good neighbors. For us, we absolutely love the area, love the community and feel as our kids get older we'll all have access to great amenities. Now ehen I go to kensington area I can't imagine living over there as to me it feels so far from where we currently are.

OP - please tell me about living in Kensington.
PP - I canāt tell you anything about living there but let me brag for a minute about the fact that l live in Martinās Additions. Find 1.5 million in your budget and join CC Country Club. Kensington is where the riff raff live, you donāt want to live there.
Welcome to MoCo OP, unfortunately a lot of people are classist snobs.
Seriously, that post was a train wreck of ālook at me, Iām doing better than you ever will.ā But think of it as DCUM, not MoCo. Lots of classist snobs on DCUM.
The Martinās Additions poster loves to brag about the fact that she lives there, although usually it is at least somewhat on point to the topic, but this time it was apropos of nothing. Unfortunately, it is not just snobs on DCUM, they exist all through MoCo. This whole thread contains proof of that.

In the real world 1.5 million is a lot of money for a nothing special house. Are your kids college funds fully funded? Iād rather you brag about that.
College, who cares about that, donāt you know I live in Martinās Additions?!!!!

Nope, no clue where that even is. Chevy chase?

Everyone in CCV sends their kids to Holy Redeemer. Plenty of ToK folks and Parkwood area folks send their kids to HR as well.
The pecking order of certain neighborhoods and schools is real.

LOL - only in the minds of the people who think they're at the top of it.
I'm happy where we live (in-bounds for OTES), but this kind of crap does get old.
What is funny to me is our income is far higher than friends who live in the town. We just think itās absurd to spend a million on a house. Donāt think for a minute that incomes on the other side of the tracks are less as often they are not.
Yeah, same. We could afford that much house, but when it buys you so little (other than majority White schools), that's a hard pass.
Also, you can't swing a dead cat in-bounds for OTES without hitting a parent with a PhD. The idea that DCC families are less invested in their children's education is unfounded.
True. Iām the rock view poster. We canāt afford a $1m house but we are dual income professional family (dual fed)

If anything we care more. With the money we didnāt spend on a mortgage our kids have very nice college funds.
Why does everything have to be a competition?
My hesitation with Kensington is Connecticut Ave and all the traffic. It's just getting worse. If you can live with that, it's a lovely area no matter which schools you are zoned for. Everyone is friendly and welcoming.
