All you people threatening OP with criminal charges for trapping her neighbor’s cats are wrong, at least in MoCo. Don’t know about DC or VA counties, but wouldn’t be surprised if they are similar.

In MoCo, roaming house cats must be spayed, can’t “trespass” onto a neighbor’s yard without the neighbor’s permission (MoCo Code Chapter 5 Sec 5-203(a)(3), and can’t poop outside the cat owner’s own property (Sec 5-203(a)(2).

Also, MoCo will loan humane traps to people dealing with nuisance situations.

So, OP, depending on where you live, the law may be on your side.

This is so laughable. In my lifetime I've seen almost all the trees in this area cut down. I've seen all the insects killed with insecticides. I wonder if there are any worms left to eat under that manicured grass. There were literally so many bugs in the air that people cleaned their windshields with every tank of gas. (Ever wonder why there are squeegees at every gas station???) Now there are literally none.

If anything, more cats are kept indoors than when I was a kid. This is such laughable nonsense that cats are decimating birds. Human beings are.

I have an exclusively indoor cat BTW.


Science disagrees with you. Cats are the second leading cause of bird mortality after habitat loss. Cats kill 1.3-4 billion birds and 6.3-22.3 billion mammals annually. Scientific studies back this up. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2380

Toxoplasmosis, which makes humans like the smell of cat pee, is real. Crazy cat ladies are real—if there were men like this I’d be the first to call them out, but you never hear about them.

I’m allergic to cats but I actually like it when neighbors cats play in my yard. I figure it helps with rodents, snakes, etc.

Water guns - that is what we did at our old house. First we talked to our very nice neighbor, she did nothing, I gave up gardening in the ground because herbs with cat pee are not edible, tried tin foil on the ground, other ideas. Finally water guns. Only thing that worked.

My friends with cats have homes that smell like cat pee. They don't smell it because they're nose-blind to it. You have to be out of your house for 3 days for you to even smell what your house actually smells like to visitors.

I love cats but I'd never have a cat because I hate litter boxes and the cat pee smell.

I don't usually notice a dog smell at a friend's house unless it's raining or has been raining. Then I get a whiff of that wet dog smell, ick.

In Arlington and the same thing. Definitely the neighbors cat. Drives my DH nuts bc it’s usually pretty close to our front door and we can both smell it. We’ve caught the cat in action. Ugh.

You need a motion activated wildlife camera. My bet is that it’s not a cat.

Every year people in my neighborhood go ballistic about people stealing their roses, complaining that they look like they were “cut by scissors”. Except I watch deer out my window chomp roses in my neighbor’s yard like they are candy.
