It's definitely gross and possibly a health issue but it would also depend on the situation. If the child had severe special needs and that's what they had to do to be able to go out to eat, then I would still think it's gross but would understand.

DH and I had dinner w/ no kids at Busboys and Poets Fri. We got sat near some families with kids outside. One family brought out a potty chair for their DD to use at their table. They used a potty liner and maybe carted off the waste, I didnt see what they did with it. The child looked 4 or 5 so they were not potty training. Why would they do this? We never did this with our kids, they would have been embarrassed to go in public at that age. Would you have said something. We were uncomfortable but I want to understand if this is based on new reasoning I haven’t heard.

My sister seriously used to do this with her kids. And she got really huffy if anyone suggested she take her kids to the restroom or to their car. It was SOOOO disgusting! She would just pop it right up on a table or next to it. I only saw her do it at outdoor venues, but still!

As a restaurant patron, it would gross me out seeing a potty chair out in the open where people (myself inc.)
are eating.

I find it in very poor taste.

But if I saw a family doing this - I would simply ignore them as much as possible and try to concentrate on enjoying my meal.

Not ok and I would have lost my appetite and left.

We have a portable camping toilet and privacy tent in our car because one DC has a sudden need sometimes. It's used outside and away from others.
