+1 part of me thinks - you get what you vote for. If the majority of the voters in some states want to make this illegal, then so be it.
Then there’s a part of me that thinks this is an absolute human right.
I tried to talk this out with my two bffs, one of whom actually voted for T the first time around, and both were adamant that it’s a basic human right the government has no right to control.

Most people want some level of abortion rights and most also want restrictions on abortion, which shows that the majority in the US wants the European style abortion approach. I actually privately think that by moving abortion to the legislature it makes it easier in the long run to get the European compromise consensus here in the US.
Ultimately, because abortion is a hugely moral issue for so many people, codifying it as a constitutional right on dubious grounds like Roe did was never going to work out well. But pushing it back to the states does allow us to have the national conversation over abortion and that it is a very complicated subject that does not deserve the all or nothing attitudes of both the extreme pro choice and pro life people, and that can be worthwhile.
How about the pro-birthers? They aren't willing to bend at all. For example, first trimester, rape or incest, life of the mother. If you are pro-life why does the woman's life not matter? At least pro-choice people aren't forcing women to have abortions. My cousin had to have a late abortion. Her baby had no brain! And they will try to have a constitutional ban for all states, ban contraceptives.
If I have an abortion it does not affect your life at all. But, if you ban it than it affects the lives of so many women and their families.

When I looked up the numbers, 93% of abortions are in the first 14 weeks. Not much will change for most people. I am perfectly fine teaching DC that birth control is most important and would prefer they use pill AND a condom. I would both rally and vote to maintain first trimester abortion and 100% for abortion pill and contraceptives. Would also vote to push for more support requirements for men/boys.
Still is not first on my list of voting issues.Though watching to make sure it is not a slippery slope. I will say as a mid-50 y.o. women, I never thought I would see this day. i also can’t understand how some state have such restrictive laws.
How do you figure? Now many women will have to travel quite far and at great expense to access abortion. Some won't be able to for either logistical or financial reasons. A lot is going to change for a lot of people. You're blind if you can't see this.

I am conflicted totally. I had an abortion, but I do believe it was a grave sin.
I think women should be free to choose the sins they choose with their body, whether it's fornication, other sexual sin, being drunk, having an abortion. We don't criminalize lots of sins, so why do states criminalize this one? We don't criminalize work on the sabbath. We don't criminalize dishonoring parents. Other sins.
I'm also conflicted because I do believe that without upholding our constitutional form of government, our country will fail for our children, grandchildren. If abortion is constitutionally a state law matter, then I do believe we must respect that, and if we don't like it, work within our democratic system for change at the state law level, or move if you don't like your state laws. We have 50 states, there is a lot of diversity and something for everybody.
