Ben Bergmann almost beat Finley even though he withdrew.
Bergman's day-of tallies were pretty incredible for someone who "withdrew" - despite there being a big sign saying that he withdrew at polling places, he still won a lot of votes.
That goes for Tricia Duncan too.
As of last night, Duncan was ahead of Finley. Finley was hurt by his longstanding ties to Trumper pollster Bob Ward.
Finley never put up signs. And he was always low energy.
On twitter, he never posted anything insightful or showed he was campaigning anywhere.
He didn't even bother to explain his accomplishments on the ANC during any of the debates.
Bob Ward is sleazy. He posted obsessively on the Cleveland Park listserve in support of Finley but wasn’t open on his ties to the campaign

Time to let it go.

1) racine
2) being a fair election candidate

The Washington Post clearly still carries sway in Ward 3, as little else explains Goulet's showing.
Actually because Eric got the nomination, DFER got heavily involved in his campaign.
Here are all the Wash Post Nominees
Mayor: Muriel E. Bowser (Winner)
Attorney General: Brian Schwalb (Winner)
Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives: Eleanor Holmes Norton (Winner)
D.C. Council:
Chairman: Phil Mendelson (Winner)
At-Large: Nate Fleming (Loser)
Ward 1: Salah Czapary (Loser)
Ward 3: Eric Goulet (Loser)
Ward 5: Faith Gibson Hubbard (Loser)
The Post went 4-4
Bowser, Norton were easy picks. Mendelson was a favorite. Ward 1 was a radical pick and lost. The other 3, which would be considered major picks of new candidates (Fleming, Czapary, and Hubbard), all lost.
So I don't think the Wash Post has as much sway as people think

At least three candidates, Monash, Goulet and Thomas, got into the race hoping for the Mayoral endorsement.
If she had picked one the Green Team probably would have picked up a seat. Instead it looks like they've lost ground.
The same could be said of Mary Cheh. If she had given a proper endorsement earlier in the race, the field would have narrowed a lot earlier.
