I teach 6th, girls learn about puberty and menstruation in 4th. In 6th, girls learn about vaginal intercourse, ejaculation, etc.

I teach 6th and will not be comfortable teaching both. I can tell you the kids won’t feel comfortable and it will be a waste of time. It irritates me that they want to combine but we cannot answer questions about same sex relationships and how they have babies. Honestly, I am from NY. The only thing we had was a puberty night that we attended with our parents. Most parents do not feel comfortable talking to their own kids about this stuff. Now lets add another difficult thing for an ES teacher. In my opinion, if they are combined, then PE should teach it.

Secondary schools they were always together, but yes, the new proposal includes all grades together.

I’m sure the PP is joking but I wouldn’t be surprised. People are already trying to push that anyone can menstruate. I wouldn’t trust FCPS FLE except for maybe the very basic first classes.

Didn't fcps mandate tampons be put in all school bathrooms starting spring 2021 for all the menstruating boys?

PP and this is a call to mobilize the Karen and Darren cohorts: they’ll need to decide upon a color-let’s say red-then all wear agreed upon color and go en masse to FCPS Board Meetings. Someone needs to make poster board signs to hold up at Gatehouse. Some can be pre-approved speakers and need to be aware of the 3.25 time limit. Someone else can send the emails and get the petitions going. Send a delegation to each PTA meeting.

What’s the online petition thing? Someone do research and find out what like Va private schools have openings? Who can submit the FOIA requests? Do something, people! First committee meeting/grassroots type is gonna be on my deck and on Zoom!

This is the FCPS way: make the decision, then survey the parents, then implement program as originally planned.

Surveys are to check a box/at least we were asked…

My 12 year old boy did not know what a period was.

We should teach them both. In the same room.

We were never separated out back in the 80s.

We were separated in the 80’s - PWC in VA. But I’m good with all kids together, regardless of gender. Education around gender identity also seems appropriate to me. I think it would be a good idea to alllow a method for questions to be asked anonymously.
