Slightly more rooted in reality, but also a story of menopause: Wayward by Dana Spiotta -- maybe my favorite book of 2022
OP here - YES! I loved that book!! Have you read anything else she's written? I've been meaning to try her earlier books . . . .
So many bad reviews of Wayward on Amazon. You guys really thought it was good?

Wow - thanks everyone!! I’ve read and enjoyed more than a few books on this thread, so we’re definitely on the same wavelength. Can’t wait to check out the others! (For those who liked Circe, did you also read Song of Achilles? My teen DD and mother both raced about it recently!)
Not the PP here, but also read most of those books and currently really enjoying Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I loved Circe so much I bought the Song of Achilles paperback, but haven't gotten to it yet. A friend who read both said she loved Circe but preferred The Silence of the Girls to Song of Achilles.
Homegoing is an intense read but worth it. Pachinko is also excellent.
These may have already been mentioned and/or you may have already read, but you might like:
Giver of Stars (Jojo Moyes)
Four Winds (Kristin Hannah)
The Henna Artist (Alka Joshi)
Ask Again, Yes (Mary Beth Keane)
Daisy Jones and the Six (Taylor Jenkins Reid- I didn't do the audiobook, but devoured this in one weekend, such a great summer read)
FWIW, this is my current queue since it sounds like maybe we have similar tastes:
Song of Achilles (soon, I swear!)
One, Two, Three (Laurie Frankel- really liked This Is How It Always Is)
The Push (Ashley Audrain)
The Silent Patient (Alex Michaelides)
Damascus Station (David McCloskey)
Conversations with Friends and Beautiful World, Where Are You (Sally Rooney- enjoyed Normal People; have heard Beautiful World isn't as good as the other two)
Harlem Shuffle (Colson Whitehead; glad to see someone here liked it!)

I did read The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark. It's a good book. More of a game of Cat & Mouse with two women keeping secrets from each other, but still becoming friends in a way.
Just preordered thanks to this rec! It sounds like a really fun book. Did you get an ARC?

I didn’t like this book. I disliked it so much I considered quitting after I stared but read to the end thinking it must get better since everyone seems to love it. Nope, it didn’t get any better.
Also HATED it. And I usually like that author!
I love the types of books on this thread. One that I'll throw out to you all is "The Heart's Invisible Furies." It's modern Irish history through the eyes of a quirky kid growing up gay.
