Nope. It killed the soccer forum. On national platforms it would be different, but when you are talking local schools, sports, personal experiences, and real estate/neighborhoods posting history can be too easy to figure it out.

Given that the owner has the ability to delete non-constructive mean posts, then it appears that the meanness is a feature, not a bug of DCUM. I’ve been visiting since ~2011 and the mean levels seem the same.

I do see some obvious troll answers sometimes that are not nice but I don’t get why people have such a hard time ignoring those and rolling past them.

Absolutely not. I’ve talked about my history of childhood sexual assault here and included information that could be identifying if aggregated with my other posts. It’s been helpful to have a place to talk through some of that.

I would lurk more and still post but be more careful about sharing personal stories since the risks of identification are higher in a local board because of post history (let's say I post in the school board, home improvement and off topic, someone can link based on my post history, and what I have mentioned in real life to another parent). If I wanted to troll, I would use a fake/throwaway account for that. I have a reddit and slickdeals account, so its really not a big deal for me. I do delete my posts and comments on reddit often.

I LOVE my mom's group on facebook. But I rarely post different answers or go against the grain. For instance sleep training posts or potty training posts. I've seen people say "kids should be 3 before you try to train" and everyone agrees with them. But, that wasn't my experience. All mine trained before 2. I think people aren't truthful.

I would. I've been in facebook groups where people are similarly candid while being identifiable, and I like that people are accountable for what they say. I like the feeling of community when you know who posters are, even if you don't know them IRL, and I feel like it helps me know people better when I do know them IRL. There's the special "group member" anonymous posting option for things that you are embarrassed about, and that seems to work fine.

No. I've been here for about 12 years. I have a registered login. I only use it infrequently when I want to identify myself. I use it in certain threads where my job is relevant. Most of the time, my job is not relevant here and I post anonymously. If I want to identify myself in a thread, I will label myself PP 12:34 or whatever to note that I'm responding again. But it's my choice when I identify myself again and when I don't.
