I love Moby Dick. It is not fast food. It’s fast casual. If there isn’t a drive thru, it isn’t fast food. Moby Dick, Cava, Chipotle, Panera, Zoe’s Kitchen etc are one rung up the ladder from fast food.
I disagree that fast food is defined by the presence of a drive-through window.
If turnaround time on orders is short enough that you can accommodate most people ordering at the counter, and standing there as they wait for the food to be prepared, then it’s fast food.
Cava, Chipotle, and Panera fit that description. Moby Dick is somewhat on the edge. It’s obviously common for people to do that, but if the majority of their business came in that way, they’d have a mess on their hands at the counter.
