Such a fun part of childhood- some of my most fond memories come from sleepovers as a kid and I am so glad my kids get to experience them as well! Usually in the summer we'll have kids sleeping here or my kids will sleep elsewhere multiple times per week. School year is a little harder and less often because they sometimes have activities in the morning (and church on Sundays) so in those cases we'll just pick up at 9:30 or so. But otherwise? Bring 'em on!
We're talking about Teenagers here. Not little kids.
At this age "sleepovers" have different meaning...
So please enlighten me on four 8th grade girls having a sleepover
The least they would be taking pics of themselves in bra or undies and sending them to boys in Snapchat all night. If they are "bi" they would be playing spin the bottle and making out!
Wait a minute. Are you saying only girls at a sleepover take pictures of themselves and send them to boys and they are bi and making out. That girls that don't have sleepovers don't do that. You are basing what girls do and don't based on a sleepover.
You have go to the be the most clueless parent.
Your child sitting at home at 10pm on their phone alone is masturbating to x rated porn and sending selfies to strangers and friends - but whew, at least they didn't have a sleepover.![]()
+1
Kids stay after for "clubs" at school and go make-out in open rooms in the school. Mommy thinks their daughter is in robotics and she is getting felt up instead.
Keeping them home alone on the weekends does nothing. You aren't preventing anything but being a helicopter with kids that resent you
Anonymous wrote:Any families have a no-sleepover rule? Did you find it hurt your child’s social life? Are you glad you had it?
No judgment please. Just curious about how teen/tween life pans out.
Anonymous wrote:No. To be honest, the families I know with "no sleepover" rules are very religious an paranoid someone will sexually abuse their child. Ironic.

It sounds like your kids need some practice dealing with changes if you think that would be true.

Anonymous wrote:It’s trickier now with so many girls in my daughters class announcing they are bi or lesbian.
I don’t want to be the parent who hosted some girls’ first sexual experience.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:No "sleepovers" for Teens. Nothing good happens after 10pm!
Yeah, I bet they just sit and look at all on their phone the other teens socializing at 10pm while they sit at home depressed. Nothing like screen time. At least they can look up some porn and masturbate while they cry at their shitty mom-controlled life.

She needs a lot of sleep and has a lot sports practices/games on weekends so add a sleepover in the mix and it's no fun for anyone. She does one on one sleepovers in the summers and occasionally during the school year and it has yet to affect her very robust social life. I think you should do whatever you and your family are comfortable with.
How does she have a social life if she is always at practices and games? Do you count that as socialization? Sounds like her schedule and social life is engineered by mom.
She plays a competitive sport, like many of her peers. I didn't choose it, she did. But when practice is until 8:30 on Friday nights, starts at 8:30 on Saturday mornings and there are games many weekends, sleepovers are tough. She has many friends and lots of invites, plus friends on her team. I appreciate your concern though!
