This is an opinion piece. Give me some facts. Not opinions from some loser board.

And I’d bet my FCPS paycheck that OP is one of those parties interested in dismantling public education.
I bet you are one of those parents whose kids benefit from inflated grades. Maybe you have connections such that your nearly illiterate kid will still have a steady income no matter their life choices. But the rest of the 98% of income earners need their kid to actually learn enough to be competetive in the workplace.
DP. My kids have learned plenty in their APS schools. I have no concerns about their level of education.

I'm a teacher, and personally I think we need to switch to a national curriculum.

Opinion: Virginia learned the hard way that lower standards don’t benefit students

Kids have to actually TRY to fail classes these days. They get test retakes, test corrections for credit back, unlimited time to make up missing assignments, etc.
The theory is that being able to correct their work on tests helps them learn the information better but I don't see it. IME, it leads to many students not even studying or trying. They know if they bomb a test they'll get to sit with the test and their notes & book to find the answers to get a better grade. There's zero incentive to try.
It may be different in other school systems but that's my experience in LCPS.

Deep blue places like California and DC have public school alternatives. In California, you can use state funds to homeschool! Why can’t we have options?
APS and FCPS both have options: many immersion and magnet schools available in both.
Exactly this.
Tons of options. Do your research and you will see that we have immersion, AAP, choices between IB and AP high schools, magnets and special Ed.
The whole narrative that public schools are failing children is ignoring the fact that here in FCPS is thriving. FCPS is well funded and successful.
And it shatters tthe GOP lies so they want to shut it down.
Vote blue all the way down this November.
