Anonymous wrote:My kids attended VA last year for 2nd grade. The teachers were great, but there was a bit too much independent work for their age. Science and Social Studies were pretty much independent learning and I had to supervise them to make sure the work got done. The math and ELA teachers were wonderful. It was a good experience but we are going back to in person school. My sense is that VA would work better for older kids.

Also why is that MCPS schools are rated lower than FCPS and HCPS on greatschools.org? Any logical explanation?
Call them on the phone and ask. Their phone number is listed on their MCPS website. Last year was a hot mess and many of us didn't get notification till the week before or even a few weeks into the school year. They are extremely short staffed as they don't have the same staffing as a regular school. They have said at meetings they hope to take everyone that is appropriate into the program as they can. One issue may be that many families are still not sure if they are staying or returning in person so that greatly impacts their open slots. If you have a medical reason, make sure to send a doctors note and that should help with acceptance.
VA is new as of last year. There should not be any ratings on it.
No one picks up the phone.

Generally more diverse county. Ratings tend to track with SES.
Sorry.. What is SES?

They don’t have a lot of staffing and trying to finish up the school year. Relax.
Are you an insider or something? or PR firm? You seem to be so sure of staffing shortage and post this in almost all threads.
We are at school. It’s not hard to see. They are not staffed like a regular school. If you don’t like that, maybe find another school or stay at the one you are at.
Last thing people want is you, anonymous advice. Can you stay out of this thread so that other can discuss what is important to them?
