Airlines have it all wrong. They should allow people to check two bags for free and charge $20 for overhead space. Only carryons that can fit under the seat should be free.

Also, let me clear: if I get on a plane after you and your ridiculously large bag is over my seat, I am moving it elsewhere to make room for my bag.

LOL sure you are buddy.

I do it all the time. Or I tell a flight attendant to gate check it to make room for mine. Just did that on Tuesday heading up to NY.

Anything is possible when you lie.

We usually buy priority seats/boarding and tend to choose seats in the first few rows. I like to board early so I can make sure my bags can go above my row and because we like to get our toddler settled early in her seat. There is nothing worse than running late and having nowhere to put your bags and when the plane lands and you are in row 2 you have to sit and wait until everybody gets off in order to walk back and retrieve your bags that have wound up in row 32.

I used to not do it. But as a fat, middle-aged woman who frequently flies first class with a child, I found I was always crowded out to the end of the line by male business travelers making us the last of our group to board, thus leaving us no overhead space. Now I line up early.

A friend of mine missed his flight because of a poorly timed potty break. He’s never been able to live it down.

Post COVID I oddly think of the air on the plane as cleaner than at the airport. So, I’m not trying to sit around in that COVID air longer than I have to

Glad that I could share the “gate lice” term with my fellow travelers!

That’s what I do. But I stand off to the side, not by the ropes.

Yes the gate lice are very annoying when you are up, ready for your group to board, and not crowding/blocking the gate yourself. Stand up as long as you want, I don't care. Just don't block the path to the gate.

Our last 2 flights they had the some bins closed in hopes to save some people later boarding a place for their bags. I HATE the jerks who board early and don't put their bags above their seats. Seriously buddy, just put your bag by you. Or gate check it and it'll be up before you're off the plane if you're in the back.

We do stand before boarding, but because we'll be sitting for a while and I have restless leg syndrome.

Absolutely do not believe you.

That’s fine. But it’s true. I have seen others do it too. I have directed flight attendants to move bags, especially if their owners are sitting back several rows.

Flight attendants are not bellhops. You can tell them to move bags around to your heart's content but there's zero chance they'd do it.

Must be something about the way I make my wishes known (which is calmly and authoritatively but no nonsense) but they have always followed my directions In this regard. About half the time they just gate-check the bag.

And then everyone started clapping!
