I keep seeing things about this and it's so scary. Breastfeeding is working for me but that's totally just luck. Does anyone know if there's anything we can do to help moms who are struggling if we don't have any formula on hand to share? I'm in DC, so I don't really have a government representative to call but I'm happy to try calling everyone else's if anyone thinks it would help..

From a friend: Bed, bath, and beyond was/is selling formula. Also on back order but they did take her money and allow the order to be placed.

My heart goes out to everyone dealing with this.

I didn’t have an alert but I may have gotten lucky. I checked late at night and was able to put in an order. I ordered enspire, for what it’s worth. I also checked other stores, and the enfamil website was the only thing that actually worked. There’s a slight delay in shipping (it says that it will ship next week) but the order did go through…so I’m kind of hopeful. I would try alerts and checking repeatedly.


LOL reminds me of the people who had to order at weird times for Instacart in 2020. Ahhh, the memories.

I completely agree. This is scary for everyone but not everyone has the same resources available to deal with it. I’m impacted by it and I’m scared and I feel for those with less resources. This needs to be fixed.

How is this not a bigger issue? Its great that so many of us in the DMV can just pop over to Whole Foods and pick up a can of $30 Earth's Best. But I just can't imagine how a mother who lives paycheck to paycheck must feel driving around for hours using gas they can't afford looking for formula. I don't know what the fix is, but its certainly not pretending like its a nonissue and blaming Fox News.

For what it's worth, my mom friend told me Whole Foods was very well stocked on formula today. I think the types of brands Whole Foods carries have been less impacted. We use Enfamil Neuropro and I've been having trouble finding it, but I think my baby would switch without much issue, so I was comforted to know that stock was high at Whole Foods.

It's still wrong. There are families now that don't have enough formula for today, tomorrow or the next day. Even if you only bought one package, what if someone came in later in the day or the next morning, needing formula and you had one, but the store was out? At this point, there is not enough to go around for the babies that are here. You should not take formula off the shelf until you are much closer to your due date. 4 months is a long way away. Do not do this.

No. It’s a jerk move to do when her baby isn’t here. If “moms” are stockpiling then they are to blame.

In your previous post you said you "combo feed." Now you say you "can't breastfeed." Which is it? If you are just concerned about milk production, due to previous experiences, you should know that every baby/post partum experience is different. Even if you haven't produced enough milk in the past, this time might be different.


My milk takes a long, long time to come in and when it does it's hit and miss. This is my third child. Am I not allowed to be worried? To stockpile means to build a personal stash. JFC get off my jock.

Is your child immune compromised? My baby took powdered formula after our initial RTF stash from the hospital ran out. We used boiled and cooled water. Doctor didn’t raise any concerns.


My twins were in the NICU for 6 weeks at birth due to undeveloped immune systems. We still used powder, although I had one on Alimentum and one on Simulac Sensitive. I used filtered water and boiled it and it was fine. The NICU nurses said that would be fine. So, even with immunocompromised children, you don't have to use RTF. That's a convenience.
