I don't know why they send this when nothing will change, no masks, no testing.
It allows individual families decide if they want to take more/less precautions. I would guess we ditch this reporting in the Fall.
What precaution can I take? I can't just keep them at home? I encourage hand washing and sanitizing, but they're unmasked at lunch as they should be.
what is there to do? Why tell us the numbers with no action?
You can mask, upgrade your mask, test your family regularly. You can't be in a zero covid zone, it's just not where we are from a public health perspective. None of us wants COVID no matter how cavalier some of these anti-mask parents sound. We are trying to keep people out of hospitals - the best way to do that is to get vaccinated and mask up. You need to let go what Larla's family is doing. We are not going to close down schools or require masks again.
But covid has evolved into a cold now.
We need to follow the UKs lead. Not China's.
The current variant is mild for most but hospital rates are rising locally. But COVID has not “evolved” into a cold. New variants could be much more severe again. And new variants are coming much more quickly than predicted and not helped by the uncontrolled spread that we have.

-give parent free Covid testing kit with another form outlying FCPS requirements for return to school
-answer any questions about return to school
-track and collect any and all data shared involving each student sent home or absent from school with Covid like illness
-participate in joint health department and school system meetings about Covid in the community
- track and report potential outbreaks
Seems like a 15 minute a day type job that could be done by one of the many office staff or the aide in the nurse's office.

You may be shocked to learn that your school does not have anyone in charge of monitoring cases. Also ask if the school has a Care Room to semi isolate students who are sick with Covid symptoms. Again, some schools send sick students to a back hallway or to the front office or some multiple sick students like 5-6 to all sit together in a small room.
It’s a shit show out there
Are you telling me FCPS is spending precious school dollars paying for "covid case managers" at individual schools? That's insane. What purpose do they serve at this point?
Our school hired a part-time covid case manager to handle the increased number of students who are out with covid. Previously the principal was doing it - with the addition of the case manager, the principal could focus on her job instead of handling the covid students too.
What's there to "handle"?
All the money spent on these case managers could have been used for tutoring, something actually beneficial to students.

Why the hell doesn’t a school go back to wearing masks when there is a known outbreak? It’s nuts.
Because chap Peterson and other state legislators made it impossible for schools to mandate masks!

A mask isn’t stopping this.

You people are so against masks. Rates were not this high in schools when masks were required.

Nope. Not against. Just “for” the choice to make for myself.
To be fair, there was no school for 3 weeks during the omicron peak. And if you look at the dashboard, cases have just barely surpassed the prior peak before the holiday break began.
