Less than 5 TOTAL.

Can this be true? We will never know, I suppose. But as a follower of college admission trends, I do find it believable.

Categorically untrue. But a nice story for people who didn’t get accepted to try to convince others of.

Yes, that can be true. When you look at the common data set, and parse through the numbers, you can figure out and ask the question...will I (or my kid) be one of the 5-10 XX type kids to be admitted to this school.

Let me guess. You’re white.

You would believe something as stupid as the this.

huh. I can't believe this because I personally know two and I don't know many seniors as my kids are younger.

Average sat is just over 1400.

Profile is probably 3.5/1410.
That's my guess.
Also, not all grading is the same at the various "Big3" schools. I have kids at STA and NCS and NCS is far stingier with grades.
My impression is that Sidwell is also stingy but GDS kids have higher GPAs.

Sidwell - very stingy.

I agree average is 3.2-3.4 and 1400-1500/32-34

WSJ Nov 30, 2019
Median SAT for Sidwell 1310

I was talking about NCS. According to the Academic Profile they send to colleges the median is 34 and 1420. I suspect this is very similar to Sidwell.

There is no way, none, that Sidwell provided internal SAT data to the WSJ. Or GPA, since we're on the topic. The PP who posted the 2019 article from WSJ should go back and look at the WSJ's data source -- bet it's some nonsense like Niche.

Sidwell doesn't give this information to its own students.

So the poster is half right and half wrong.

The WSJ did obtain median SAT scores for basically every school in the nation. They got it from the College Board, not the schools, back when the College Board was thinking about using an “adversity index.”

However, Sidwell’s median was 1480, not 1310. STA was 1460, NCS was 1430. Here is the link:

GDS was 1410, Potomac 1400, Holton Arms 1375, and Maret 1370 in case anyone was wondering.

Relevance?

It's relevant because people on DCUM whine all the time about how hard admissions are for their private school kids.
