None of my friends were conservatives. And many work in very 'liberal' areas today.
Blacksburg is a college town. The University dominates the town which leads the area to be much more liberal than SW VA as a whole.
It is definitely less conservative than Richmond or even UVA. UVA and U Richmond students are a bunch of little Republicans. A sea of Patagonia vests and bow ties.
Vineyard Vines, Lily, Patagonia, Bow ties and Republicans. Not at VT.
Very Southern Conservative. Good 'ol boys, wealthy republicans.
^^ U. Richmond & UVA. The dress is certainly very conservative. You could get zinged for not wearing the 'conservative preppy uniform'.
That may have been the case 30 years ago, but to my eyes it sure doesn't seem true any longer.
+1UVa students may dress for certain occasions (rush, formals, debate) but day to day? The women are in athleisure and the guys are in shorts/sweatpants and tshirts/hoodies. Based on what the women wear to evening football games for going out afterward, dear old Lily would roll in her grave.![]()
People on here need to stop saying outdated things like they’re still current. Whether it’s admissions to finding a roommate to attire.
Agreed. This is post covid! These kids are rolling up in athletic wear and sweats 🤣

Do they still have FoxField?

Hâte Youngkin, but they always have the new gov speak at graduation. It’s not an indicator of anything other than Virginia voters in some areas of the state.
It’s big enough that you’ll find lots of different kinds of students. Go to instagram and follow a bunch of VT accounts like: wellness, women’s center, any organizations your student might be interested in. Cultural center, etc. It’s not NYC, but it’s current. Also, join the parents Facebook page. Lots of prospective parents ask questions there.

Anonymous wrote:I’m giggling over here about how UVA is so conservative in dress. I was in C-ville last August for a weekend and omg, the trampy little outfits on the girls! There was one poor girl that I saw going uphill in a way too short skirt that I said “dear goodness, I hope she has on panties”
I guess bras are now considered shirts, huh?

Let's see, according to their website, they have an Africana Studies department, a Human Sexuality Certificate, trainings for staff and students on LGBTQ issues, safe spaces, and inclusive housing for transgender students. Yes, clearly this is a bastion of right wing nut jobs. Might as well go Liberty University.
I think that the student body definitely has a conservative lean, and offering classes, clubs, and training does not negate that, but serves to offset it. While I don’t share them, I am one that thinks that people are allowed to have conservative political opinions, and educated people can do so without being racist or homophobic.
