So what? They're excellent schools with low admit rates that are incredibly popular. Get your head out of your butt - most kids would be thrilled to attend their reach schools under this arrangement, as PPs are noting.USC and Northeastern. Those are not not T20 schools

Accepting changes everything that was planned for the summer. Heck, it'll completely change the plans we have for graduation.
I was ecstatic when he read the first word "Congratulations," and then devastated when I learned it was only if he started summer semester.
I know it sounds terrible, but I don't want him to be gone THREE days after he graduates HS. However, I know that I can't hold him back from his dream school. He's literally talked about attending this school since he was in MS. It just seems so rushed...
If his dream school is Penn State, I know someone who was admitted for the summer session. He called and said he couldn't make it. They said ok, see you in the fall.
Sounds ridiculous, but maybe there's some play in the offer.

More colleges are doing this, but it's not to hide anything. It's just practical to have people waiting to take the place of those they know will leave after the first semester for whatever reason, and they're pretty good at predicting how many students that will be each year. They lose loads of money otherwise.
