Well driving is basically anarchy in Maryland, so I wouldn't exactly use that as your standard.

Unless you live on a very narrow, quiet street where there's essentially one lane for driving. So you're not "crossing" oncoming traffic - 1) because it doesn't exist and 2) because you're just pulling into the same lane you'd pull into from the other side of the road or if you were parked in the different direction.

Lots of streets like that in the DMV area.

I'm not OP but interested as well b/c driving in this area is getting weirder and weirder. I'm curious why all of the sudden it's so bad.

Parked car was found at fault.

Why though? If the car was in the same spot but facing the other direction wouldn’t the result be the same?

First wrong person is at fault.

I'm not talking about a delivery person who's parked for a minute max, but cars parked for 10, 30, 60+ minutes or even overnight. Where on earth did you people learn to drive? How hard is it to take a few seconds and turn around to park normally?

I learned in London.

I learned to drive in DC and have assumed for the last 40 years that parking on the wrong side was legal in Maryland, not least because I see it All. The. Time. on the Maryland side of the line. I knew it was illegal in DC, and before everybody just gave up on enforcing anything ever, I very rarely saw anybody do it in DC. Shocked to learn it's actually illegal in Maryland, too, though apparently honored more in the breach etc. "Except as otherwise provided in this section, a vehicle that is stopped or parked on a two-way roadway shall be stopped or parked parallel to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway, with its right hand wheels within 12 inches of that curb or edge of the roadway." https://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/transportation/title-21/subtitle-10/section-21-1004/

Legal in several US states…and rarely enforced outside a major city.

Greece. Didn't even know it was illegal here until I got a ticket.

People do it all the time where I live. Doesn't bother me at all. We barely have traffic laws (and they are never enforced). Parking laws are non existant.
