I have to agree that PC is very similar to UR. both are liberal arts colleges at their core but both offer career preparation for those interested via strong business schools and teacher preparation programs. Same size range (3000-4000). Both located in state capital. Both play Div I sports with basketball being the center of school spirit.

Great suggestions. If you can do early action or decision, check out the admission rates for some of these schools. Many are 2x+ easier to get in ED compared to RD.

+1, after Virginia, the most represented states are NY, NJ, PA, CT, MD, MA and IL

I love Fordham!

But Richmond makes me think of Elon.



My kid with a 4.0, heavy extra curricular, 6 A.P. and the rest honors, Catholic HS, was rejected from Fordham, family alum. It is not a safety school.

I'd love to know what this kid's college list results look like.

OP, I can't comment on the others, but I have been on the campuses of Oxy, Reed, and Richmond and there is no way the first two schools are similar to Richmond.

I'm not the PP, but U of Richmond's stereotype is they are smart kids who tend wealthy, moderate, career-focused and have a preppy style. Reed's stereotype is smart kids who tend to be very intellectual, maybe drawn to more radical or 'out there' perspectives, often decidedly not focused on a career. Oxy is thought to draw creative, quirky types too--though maybe not quite as much as Reed. They each reflect their locations (Reed--pacific NW, Oxy-California, and Richmond, East Coast with a Southern tinge).

Schools can be like each other in different ways. Unless she means identical, then the door is open to a lot of possibilities. But as soon as she changed it to higher acceptance rate, everything else changed too. Does old money really want to buy its way into an “ inferior” school? What would be the point?
