The main reason I don't go to restaurants like Rasika is because I'm vegetarian, and I know that I can make their vegetarian entrees as well as they can, for far, far less money. So it just doesn't make sense. I'd rather go to a type of restaurant where I can't make the food.

YES to Haandi!

Only if you want westernized Indian food. Went there once and my White American DH said even my food was better…I am not a great cook.

Odd. I am Indian myself and I think they are fantastic. Did you forget to order the food spicy?

Every time I go I see Indian people eating there so I guess they like Westernized Indian food too.

I like Rasika and have been several times, every time when it was suggested by an Indian or Indian-American person.

I'm Indian and always recommend Rasika to white people, because I know that they will like it. But I never go there myself.

Rasika - great food, cocktails, atmosphere

Raaga (VA) - North Indian Fare

Woodlands (Va) - South Indian Fare

Mama Tigre (Va) - Indian/Latin Fusion, great flavors

+1 except Woodlands (MD). Never been to the one in VA.

Haven't been in a while, but the only restaurant I ever liked was Woodlands (MD).

Me too, but it closed.

I loved their weekend brunch so much! In fact, our last restaurant meal before the world shut down was Woodlands brunch- I had snapped a photo of my toddler noshing dosa and now it comes up every March in my Google photos feed.

At one point they were operating a "ghost kitchen" out of Jewel of India (which we like too) but not sure if that's still the case.

I miss both Woodlands and Udupi so much.

Bombay Bistro in Rockville. Love them for carry out (restaurant itself is very small). And Commonwealth in Pike and Rose is great too. Rasika is nice for the ambience, but I don't think their food is as great as other less-fancy Indian restaurants in the area. Bombay Club in DC is better if you're looking for a good night out kind of place.

With Rasika, the palak chaat (crisped spinach app) is okay but they are so racist against Indian people, I won't go on principle. The 1-star reviews are from Indians and Indian-Americans. The complaints of second-class service happen to Indian people. Tastes may vary, but there is no excuse for treating brown people differently.

PP here. Jewel of India is owned by the same owner of the old Woodlands in MD. Still has all the great vegetarian dishes plus some great chicken and fish dishes!
