You need to up that to at least $15-$17k, just for hotel costs, if you want to go to places like the PP have suggested.

So true. I was very underwhelmed by Martha’s Vineyard and Kennebunkport. I considered going to Nantucket but I know it will be more of the same. We can easily afford to go but I just don’t want to go. We are POC. Not sure if that matters.

Sorry, but I loathe Maine and anything New England in the summertime.

Our family loved Ketchikan, Alaska in July. We stayed at Waterfall. It’s a pretty quick flight from Seattle. I am sure Waterfall is already booked up and very expensive for the summer, but I’m sure you could give them a call.

Otherwise, Rush Creek @ Yosemite might be more your speed. Great base for traveling around Northern California. My kids are older, so they have more tolerance for car rides.

Why in the world would she want to go to Florida in July???? Especially when she said she doesn’t want hot. Florida is cheaper in the summer for a reason.

I would look at ski towns like Breckenridge or Telluride. Lots to do in the summer, typically not too hot, gorgeous mountain scenery, and lots of accommodation options.

For west coast, you could check out Shutters in Santa Monica.
