I'm not embarrassed when we get our annual Virginia property tax bill for our cars. The bill for my husband's car is hundreds. The bill for mine is nearly zero.

Hang out on Mr. Money Mustache. Your car will be treasured and valued.

04 Accord with "eczema" as it is a black car and I do not have a 4 car garage. I alternate driving it to save on gas and park in the tight spaces with my brand new Audi or the van when I have all the kids. Love the Accord the best. No bs, quiet, economical and it is a V6 w/ all upgrades so comfy. Don't feel bad at all. Drive your oldie with pride.

Just wait until you are older, OP and stop giving a sh*t about what other people think. I am a big law partner and we have an old minivan because it is practical. And I could not care less what others think about it (or any other decision that I make).

Floor mats are (relatively) cheap. Treat yourself!

Old car working is great!

I have a 5 year-old car that I am ashamed to give rides in (unless I clean out the waste & air it out) but if I give someone a ride on a whim it’s embarrassing. Actually, shame is what I feel.

Dirty smelly messy is turnoff.

I would rather drive a thirty-three yr. old Honda vs. a late model, shiny new KIA.

Dont underestimate the shiny KIA. It may still run 30 years from today.

Highly doubtful.
I wouldn’t bank on a KIA lasting THAT long.

Though I think anyone who takes care of their Hondas may be surprised to see it outlive them.
I plan on being buried in mine. 🙊

There is a difference between an old car and a beater. I don't think people care about cars that are old, they care about cars that have been mistreated. If your car has numerous bumps and bruises on the outside, dirty/smelly/messy interior, then that signals to others the type of person you are - someone who let things go and don't take care of their responsibilities. If your older car is well kept, even if the paint has faded, it will show as clean and neat, and no one should be embarrassed about a car like that. The only people who look down on a well-kept older car are doing so for image-conscious reasons, and you don't have to play that game.

You have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. It shows you are very smart and frugal and make sound financial decisions. Jeff Bezos still drove his old Honda when he was a billionaire!!

It may sound kind of snarky, but I am embarrassed to drive my expensive gas guzzling car. I think it makes me look foolish and I wish we had made a better economical decision.
