We’re talking about KIDS SPECIFICALLY being forced to take a vaccine for a disease that usually doesn’t affect them. DH and I were isolating at home with our kids when we tested positive for covid in January (both having cold symptoms, both fully faxed), and one of our kids tested positive in a week (symptom freed, not even a sniffle), and the second NEVER even tested positive (and boy, did we test her often). So what’s the point of these examples, your and mine?

My wariness is my child is very young and this feels like it will be pushed through for political reasons, not health reasons. Anyone who says differently hasn’t been paying attention to the approval process for vaccines.

I am not worried about my child getting seriously I’ll from Covid anymore than I am worried about her getting very ill from the flu or pneumonia.

I’m in the medical field. The game has changed for the approval process for the vaccine with these new therapies. You don’t need time to grow things like the old way. You now have a more efficient process where your own cells make the antigen. It’s much more of a natural process and much lower risk of adverse effects, allergic reactions, etc….

People need to realize that the world is one big clinical trial with the vaccines. Millions, likely billions, of adults have gotten the vaccine, and if there was any really serious short term effects of the vaccine, we would know it by now.

We are fortunate in this country with access to the best vaccines for Covid which is the mRNA vaccine. DC has done a tremendous vaccine program with easy access with pop ups in every ward, outreach to community churches, knocking on doors, and huge prizes such as cars, scholarships, gift cards to get the vaccine in the poorer wards. Access and convenience has not been the issue here. I doubt that DC will get anywhere even near to 50% for the 5-11 group like OP predicts.

I don’t think this is the case for a majority of unvaccinated under the age of 11. I think families are very wary about the new vaccine. I also don’t think DCPS will do anything about it. Among parents of DCPS students? I don’t think I am. Please remember the vast majority of MC and UMC parents in DC do not send their kids to DCPS schools. They use charters or private schools.

This, the majority of DCPS schools, especially the title 1 schools, is going to be a big mess in terms of unvaccinated kids and the biggest achievement gap DC likely has ever seen.

We know that vaccine hesitancy is linked to socioeconomic class in DC just as we know that the poorest academic performers are linked to socioeconomic class. So it’s not surprising that DC data shows that the poorest performers suffered the most learning loss in DC.
