Mine was deleted too. I don’t think I said anything problematic. I don’t recall if I quoted someone and if that person had said something problematic

Mine was deleted too, all I did was post to the other thread about masking saying this had been discussed enough.

Exactly this.

I'm letting my kids unmask because we will literally never get to FCPS's version of when it's safe. "Substantial transmission" is 8-10% positivity!!! That is not a number I'm afraid of. We have to get to less than 8%positivity and fewer than 49 cases per 100,000 for 7 days and stay there to meet their metric. In the past year, that has only happened from May-July of 2021. Also, 73% of all Fairfax county residents are vaccinated - that includes the under 5s who aren't eligible.

For me, it's time to say that the benefits of school without a mask outweigh the chance of getting covid for my vaccinated kids.

Why would they correct it. FCPS said the same in their notice.

Agree. WTOP read it the way most of us are reading it.

I agree with you, just pointing out that at this point it would be up to FCPS to correct if it's not the path forward, as some people are reading the letter differently.

People who aren’t used to reading things written by lawyers. This is how they right. The meaning is clear. They have to go along, and that’s the legal obligation.

As a teacher I will be done March 1 telling a kid to mask. 🙂

Enjoy that part!

Can't go virtual any more, except for 10 snow days. That was the initial intent of SB 739 and it's still in there.

See, I read it as the opposite, that they recognize the law allows parents to opt out and they will not fight that.

Right but they will guilt your kids into masking.

They will try to protect your children and other children. How horrible.

It is horrible when they don’t acknowledge there are downsides to masks and vaccines available for those who want them now.

Good lord you are a drama queen. One of my kids attends a Catholic school that opened for in person learning in September 2020. Masks became optional there as soon as the governor issued his executive order. When they emailed to tell us that, they reminded us that masks have been a part of the mitigation strategies that have kept school running smoothly this whole time and to consider that when deciding whether to send our kids in masks or not. We also had to indicate to the school whether our child was going to continue wearing a mask or not. According to my child, there are a few kids in the class no longer wearing masks but most still are. Stating facts is not guilting people into doing something. If you feel so offended when someone reminds you of the fact that masks have been part of Covid mitigation strategies up until now, that is entirely your issue. Maybe it bothers you because deep down you know that it’s right and you just don’t want to admit it.

And don’t come at me with some BS about the downsides to masks. I am very familiar with them. My other child is a member of a group that has been mentioned on here repeatedly about being harmed by mask wearing. But I am not arrogant enough to believe that my own child’s needs are more important than the health of the community during a pandemic. Too bad your children aren’t going to be learning that lesson from you.

DP. I don't know what your Catholic school has done. But FCPS has upgraded ventilation in their buildings and my kids' school building has ventilation that provides better safety than a cloth mask. There's really no need for masks in our school building, because of the excellent ventilation system. All the students should take their masks off now, and should have done so from the beginning of the school year. At least the time has finally come.

Wow? Bold interpretation by WTOP? Did they read the same letter I did?

They took some pretty big liberties. "drop the mask mandate" implies an active choice by FCPS. "FCPS acknowledges that state law makes mask mandates unenforceable" would have been a more accurate headline.
