So you may not can extrapolate all over the country, but these types of policies ARE being pursued nationally by cities where the progressive left is in control. And people do not like it. I wish DC could get rid of its entire Clown Council, but the fact that city governance is controlled via the democratic primary means that the lunatic fringe---just like the right wing nut jobs in red states---can get far more control than they deserve.

These are all core conservatives/republican issues. Go watch Tucker/hannity.

This is exactly what the thread says: “one faction dug up old tweets on a board member”

That makes it sound like one side maliciously combed through Collins’ Twitter history to find the embarrassing selfie she accidentally tweeted after she had a grand evening at 15 Romulo. So yes, in that respect it mentions the tweets. But it does not mention that the tweets were horrifically racist, using in particular a phrase to describe “Asians” (apparently all Asians are literally the same to her) that should not be repeated. Go search “Allison Collins tweets” if you want to read the whole vile thread, for which she refused to apologize. And so, it does NOT mention old racist tweets, which was what as pointed out above.

So I don’t know who that author of that thread is, but I know he is someone who is actively hiding a disgusting act by a school board member, so that tells me how much I should value his opinion.

I am a Democrat who is not happy with my local school board either but I cannot in any way support the other side-book bans, pro-voucher/charters at the expense of public education, intense fear mongering. The constant posting by right wing folks on these forums has made it so I would definitely never support them. I am hoping that Democrats get a freaking clue and actually put out sensible/pro academics candidates going forward. And that people with common sense run for local School Boards. School board candidates should be non-partisan and not endorsed by any political party. It's crazy that it isn't the case.

My problem is that while I definitely can’t support the Republicans (at least in their current traitorous form), I find that I can’t really support the Democrats either. It makes me want to not vote at all which I have literally never done before. I have never not voted.

Take it election by election and see who is running and see if you like any enough to vote. You don't have to decide now. I didn't vote in the D primary where McAuliffe won - I decided to leave the Ds to their own devices on that one - even though I normally don't miss elections either. I feel fine with it.
As of right now - I feel like I am not voting for any incumbenants in the next election. That doesn't mean I am voting R. I'll see how I feel when the times come and who, if anyone, is saying anything compelling to me. I'm watching their records and annoyed at how they voted on optional masking right now.

And all of that happened while the schools were closed.

Most of this can absolutely be extrapolated to FCPS.

- Changed the names of several schools at up to $1 million dollars cost PER school, because the names were too racist

-Got rid of merit-based, race blind entry for the nationally known TJ high school in order to decrease the amount of Asians being admitted

-Spent $24000 dollars for a 45 min. Zoom call by Ibram Kendi

-One of the last districts to return to in person schooling and during virtual they had decreased the number of school days by 25% for the year.

-Lowered the pass grade for standardized testing and still had record number of fails

-Had no real return to in person school plans, they were too busy with pet projects. They had to have their hand forced just to get kids back in school 2 days a week and the State legislature had to pass a new law to require in person learning for this school year or they would have happily sat on their hands about it.

All while schools were basically closed.

Can we recall MCPS BOE? Tired of their BS, too.

School boundaries and lotteries for enrichment programs are very much a salient issue in Montgomery County.

There is an enormous difference between boundary reviews (which are never popular) and just eliminating boundaries

Changing magnet/gifted from merit based to lottery was of the main issues. It was mostly targeting Asian Americans and therefore almost 95% of the population in the affected counties supported the recall. Data is easily available.

Please don't victimize the Asian American community. At some point, they are forced to fight back for their children's sake.

In San Francisco the recall had broad multi-racial support. It was not just a case of the Asian community being the only supporters. I do think that the anti Asian racism on display catalyzed the Asian community, but in the end the recall was very broadly supported.

DP. I think it would have broad multi-racial support here, too. The TJ lottery-based admissions system is discriminatory to the best and brightest - period. I'm white, none of my kids were qualified to go there, and I fully support a merit-based admissions system. What's the point unless all the kids are actually THE SMARTEST - regardless of their race?

It’s annoying that when recalled, Ms. Collins sued for racism. Racism…it was promptly thrown out, but she was such a vindictive tool. Her racist tweets and incompetence were enough to get her tossed out, but claiming racism is so cliche.

San Francisco does not have a large Black population, but they also voted in favor of the recall. I do not think these shenanigans by Collins were well-received by any constituents.
