For one thing, they overshot their budget by $100M. (Duke Ellington renovation)
This isn’t about masks.
1. They eliminated neighborhood schools so that any kid could basically get assigned to any school, anywhere in the city at random. (DCPS tried a version of this approach in last boundary adjustment---only vocal and continuous community outrage defeated it)
2. They changed names of schools for bizarre reasons, making the city a national joke. (This is on-going. Some justified, some just performative---since DCPS CLEARLY has bigger problems to focus on)
3. They changed entry for the vaunted Lincoln HS from merit-based to lottery. (Recent changes to admissions requirements for magnet School Without Walls)
And there’s more. Just totally out of touch and incompetent.
Also they removed one of the now-recalled commissioners as VP of the board for her racist tweets (Trayon "Jews Control the Weather" White?), then she turned around and sued the school district for $87M. And another of the now-recalled commissioners stood by her.
These are not issues which you can extrapolate all over the country, people.
So you may not can extrapolate all over the country, but these types of policies ARE being pursued nationally by cities where the progressive left is in control. And people do not like it. I wish DC could get rid of its entire Clown Council, but the fact that city governance is controlled via the democratic primary means that the lunatic fringe---just like the right wing nut jobs in red states---can get far more control than they deserve.
These are all core conservatives/republican issues. Go watch Tucker/hannity.

The fact that Tweet thread didn’t mention the overtly racist Tweets from Collins tells me all I need to know about the author.
It does mention the tweets, though?

Keep up the denial. You’re in for a rude awakening in November.
Nope. November isn’t going to go at all like you RWNJ’s think it will. When the votes are counted, you’ll be even further on the losing end than you are now.
That’s right! You shouldn’t even show up to vote it’ll be such a blue wave.

I am a Democrat who is not happy with my local school board either but I cannot in any way support the other side-book bans, pro-voucher/charters at the expense of public education, intense fear mongering. The constant posting by right wing folks on these forums has made it so I would definitely never support them. I am hoping that Democrats get a freaking clue and actually put out sensible/pro academics candidates going forward. And that people with common sense run for local School Boards. School board candidates should be non-partisan and not endorsed by any political party. It's crazy that it isn't the case.
My problem is that while I definitely can’t support the Republicans (at least in their current traitorous form), I find that I can’t really support the Democrats either. It makes me want to not vote at all which I have literally never done before. I have never not voted.

And all of that happened while the schools were closed.

These are not issues which you can extrapolate all over the country, people.
School boundaries and lotteries for enrichment programs are very much a salient issue in Montgomery County.
There is an enormous difference between boundary reviews (which are never popular) and just eliminating boundaries
And what if changing “gifted” programs from merit based to lottery based?
Changing magnet/gifted from merit based to lottery was of the main issues. It was mostly targeting Asian Americans and therefore almost 95% of the population in the affected counties supported the recall. Data is easily available.
Please don't victimize the Asian American community. At some point, they are forced to fight back for their children's sake.
In San Francisco the recall had broad multi-racial support. It was not just a case of the Asian community being the only supporters. I do think that the anti Asian racism on display catalyzed the Asian community, but in the end the recall was very broadly supported.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:This is also an acknowledgement of the Anti-Asian racism that has come to dominate progressive Democrat politics. One of those ousted, Alison Collins called merit-based admissions racist (https://www.newsweek.com/school-called-racist-san-francisco-1566895). This is exactly what is being played out in the DMV area at the behest of the progressives and to the detriment of Asian-Americans.
The days of the Democrats taking Asian votes for granted are over.
The days of the Democrats taking any votes for granted when it comes to school board elections are over, especially in places like Fairfax where the corrupt, incompetent School Board spent months obsessing over admissions to a single high school while ignoring the needs of 97% of the kids.
Will be great to see many of them tossed out next year.

It’s annoying that when recalled, Ms. Collins sued for racism. Racism…it was promptly thrown out, but she was such a vindictive tool. Her racist tweets and incompetence were enough to get her tossed out, but claiming racism is so cliche.
