We moved from dc to Arlington after getting in via the lottery (this was during Covid; we did have to provide an Arlington address very quickly!). We’ve never looked back - we’re really happy with aps esp compared to dcps.

We want him to continue Spanish immersion, which is why I entered the Arlington lottery. I realize we will have to move to Arlington, but I am wondering if the academics at this school are strong enough to justify the move?

Compared to what other options?

(They really shouldn’t allow non-Arlington residents to enter the lottery…)

I agree

Many Arlington residents don’t know this. We should make a change.

We did this - for us it was worth it and we ended up loving Arlington. I am not sure which DC school your kid is in, but we found the bilingual program at Gunston to be great (their math department is amazing - esp for advanced students).

We did this, too (moved from DC to Arlington when oldest started K at Key). It’s been worth it for us. Oldest is now in HS, still in immersion. APS obviously isn’t perfect, but we’ve been happy with the academics overall. (We had additional reasons for moving, but school was one of them, and specifically immersion within the school category.)

Did they get in eventually?

A few years ago my child was waitlisted for Claremont and we got in after the first round of acceptances/rejections. I knew at least one family that year that got OFF the waitlist in August. This was when there were 6 kindergarten classes though. GL!
