The application process to Walls last year was a joke. Don’t sweat it - there is nothing you can do to impact it, beyond the initial cut off. Think of it like a lottery.

No, but my kid has a B+ on his fall transcript from private school (which ironically he worked about 10 times harder for than any of his previous DCPS A's).

You won’t make the GPA cut-off under the new system.

yeah, I imagine this is probably the case. My kid wrote about 10 papers for this class this fall--each 5 pages long. It was crazy. Learned more and worked harder in this class than he/she has in any DCPS class by a mile.
(previously eft Deal with straight A's for 3 years and nothing less than a 98% in any class in 8th grade).
This current private school also gives A+ grades so I wonder how those factors into GPA.

You have a ninth grader who wrote 10 5-page papers for one class in one semester? This is very hard to believe (says parent of two kids who went to Big 3 school...and another who went to well-known boarding school).

Yes! It was crazy. This is a Big3 school and a particularly intense English teacher. I have heard other sections of the class were not as writing intensive. my kid read 5 books as well. It was trial by fire, especially after remote DCPS.

Why switch?

I don't think that is accurate: according to this, it looks like they need a 3.0 GPA ...

But they only take the top GPAs. Supposedly last year for 9th grade you needed a 3.7+ (A-) to make the cut to get an interview.

Right—but my point is that one B+ is one class is unlikely a deal breaker, assuming mostly As in the other classes.

We haven't heard (and our kid has all As from a DC Charter)...is it possible that they don't do upper classes at the same time because they don't know how many slots they need to fill?

If you look at historical waitlist data, it definitely seems that they admit for 10, 11, and 12 as they process withdrawals. But I think they have to give all their lists to MySchool on March 15. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do 9th grade first.

Sounds like he's getting an amazing education--why would you have him leave?
