It’s not the guns, it’s the people. Depraved culture that celebrates violence and a complete lack of strong male role models in the family. It’s a hopeless situation because literally nobody will acknowledge the problem so there will never be a solution.

416 people were murdered in DC in 2021.

Lie.

+1 That number includes Fairfax, MoCo, and PG counties. DC was at just under 200 by itself, which is high enough without adding in the burbs.

I mean, fairfax county is like 50% higher population than dc and had 21 total homicides in 2021. Let's not pretend it's a significant contributor to the crime in the area lol
Plus 1. I live in Montgomery county and I’ve heard about 4 murders here in about 20 years. I don’t think we add to that total either.

Just because you didn't hear about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. There were 35 homicides in moco last year: https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/police-fire/montgomery-county-hits-three-decade-high-for-homicides/

An Arlington man is facing two felony charges following a shooting at a grocery store in Fairfax County.

According to police, Harvey Coleman, 33, called police after he said he shot someone in self-defense inside a Food Star in Falls Church, Virginia, on Saturday.

That area, Bailey's Crossroads near Culmore has always been sketchy. Most of Fairfax County is paradise compared to that area.

I don't even want to go downtown anymore. DC has never been more dangerous and it's getting worse.

A student was robbed the night before. Both of the incidents happened after dark. In the second incident, the parties knew each other.

No, DC has never really been "safe", same -maybe a little worse - as most other cities.

Georgetown was a slum until the 1930s. Boom and bust cycles are, well, cyclical.

Ironic that, in the same post you call others nitwits, you ask what they are doing to "ban and confiscate guns." There is literally nothing that can be done to ban guns. The Supreme Court has ruled on this issue. Unless you are implementing the plan from the Pelican Brief, it's a settled issue (at least with this Court). Pay closer attention.

Actually, while DC fought tooth and nail against legal gun ownership, our AG is remarkably soft on illegal gun crimes. So yes, as a city we can do more about ghost guns, gun buy backs, and raining down holy hell in anyone using a gun in an illegal fashion, you know, like the commission of a crime. Let's start with the tween car jackers last week and follow that thread.

You should be more concerned that she'll eat the crap they serve at Georgetown Cupcakes.

Do any of you read the news? This isn't just a DC problem. This is happening across the country. Murder rates went up in 2020 and then again last year.

Gee, I wonder what is different about the last two years?

Hello? Pandemic, people have been buying more guns, and policing has changed since the protests.

Are you kidding? A shooting in Georgetown makes you nervous? It doesn’t matter where you send her to college. She’s at risk everywhere. That’s life. We are playing a game of frogger trying to avoid what can get us everytime we leave the house. I heard someone was driving down east west hwy and a tree fell on car and killed a mom. If she leaves the house 30 seconds later, she lives. You really just never know when it’s your time to go

Shooting someone is a deliberate act, it's not a random act of God. It's rational to decide to avoid the risk of going to a crime-ridden area.

Tell that to the families of all the children who were killed by a stray bullet just walking or playing in their neighborhood.

I would never--some people can't choose where they live. However, someone planning to attend Georgetown certainly has other options.

It’s all those people coming in from Virginia.

Uh, no. Virginians who used to frequent Georgetown now avoid it like the plague. Nice try, though.

This.

+1000.

We live inside the beltway in VA.

Georgetown is dead to us. Sad, because I went to American and used to LOVE the old Georgetown.

Not sure when you went to AU but Georgetown hasn't been good for a long time.
