These days I would just order a sparkling water and not care what people think. But back when I was hiding a pregnancy, I would order my drink directly from the bar and ask for a club soda with lime in a rocks glass. Otherwise it would go in a pint glass, which is clearly soda and not a cocktail.

Hello it’s a business dinner. No choices of people there.

As a woman who's been pregnant, but way too early to tell anyone, just wanted to say that I get the anxiety! Even if that's not your situation. I was traveling with my boss at 11 weeks and yes, felt weird about not drinking so I ended up telling him earlier than I wanted to. It was just the two of us though. Family wedding was fine - soda water with a lime and no one noticed. I thought. Apparently the cousins had all placed bets

This. No one cares.

OP do you usually drink at work dinners? If so they may think you’re pregnant. My boss knew I was pregnant before I told her because I stopped drinking at work dinners. But I usually drank at dinners and happy hours.

This is what I was thinking too. Have been there. In that case, if it's a situation where you can get a drink at the bar first, get a club soda with lime and ask the bar tender for a short glass. If you can't do that, get a beer in a dark bottle (hopefully it is not a super fancy dinner, haha) and just pretend to drink it. No one will really care or notice.

Water, honestly. No one blinks if you just drink water.

There is none. I’m 45 and have never drank alcohol. It’s only a problem to people who know they drink too much.

People in recovery think it is a big deal but those who never drink have no problem ordering a water.

those in early recovery think it is until they realize it is not.
