The attorney investigating LCPS wanted Heaphy’s job and asked if he could have it if the ongoing investigation "is done well and the AG looks good."

Does the AG see anything wrong with an assistant for investigations asking for a job if an ongoing investigation makes the AG look good in the end?

It’s if no concern. These positions answer to the AG. Just like with any other type of “at will” position to the AG, the AG gets to clean house and replace with like-minded individuals. The Dems do the same when they take office. Same thing happens at the federal level when a new party comes into power.

It is absolutely a cause for concern. This administration has already shown their willingness to completely overreach, so there is every reason to be concerned that they will try to interfere with Virginia’s public universities in other inappropriate ways, such as trying to dictate course curriculum.

This happens every time a new administration takes over, left or right. Learn your civics

No, silly! It's only cause for outrage when it's a REPUBLICAN administration taking over. Democrats can fire and hire whomever they wish.

It’s cause for concern when it’s atypical, and so obviously an attempt to retaliate against this employee for serving his country.

I agree with PP. He was hired by the Board of Visitors and in normal times would have been fired by them if they had a need to. I’m not sure if the new AG is open to a suit. As a Virginian I’m mad at the new guy wasting tax money by inserting himself into needless suits. We all pay.

I have a feeling the two university attorneys will land on their feet though. It’s an honor to be fired by a fascist; to be seen as a threat.

The Board of Visitors doesn't hire the university counsel. It's a political appointment by the Virginia AG. Herring appointed Heaphy.

This is technically true but in practice false. Officially the AG appoints university counsel, but in practice the hiring and firing decisions for these positions are made by the colleges/universities and the AG's office just signs off on the institution's decisions.

Assuming the AG approves of the decision. So, no, the Board isn't doing the hiring and firing. I don't know why Virginia was paying the bill for a federal investigation. Are the Feds out of money?

Do you have a source stating that Heaphy was on paid leave? Usually this type of leave would be unpaid.

I am sure he was still benefiting from other compensations such as medical insurance or breaks in service. Must be nice.

If it can be shown the firing was political there will be lawsuits and hell to pay.

This is straight from the top of Youngkin's admin.

Youngkin is fully in on covering up Trump's crimes, and helping Trump get away with the first coup attempt in the 200+ year history of American democracy.

Republicans are extremists, and Trumpers, and anyone who hopes to get elected in the GOP has to embrace the lies, corruption, criminality, and authoritarianism.

No matter how much Republicans lie about what they stand for.

Another partisan post from a lib. Sorry winners and losers…
