My brother was always "average" through high school. After graduation, he shot up to 6'5". Our parents are each 5'10", I'm 5'8", and our grandparents are all short. There are a few outliers like my brother (our great grandfather, an uncle, and one cousin), but most men in our family, on both sides, topped out at 5'5-5'6".

I think height is just really hard to predict!

Mine was always >99 percentile. Like way over the curve. He stayed that way until about 14. He hit puberty early and is now (full height) about 6’3”. If we followed his growth prior to puberty, he would be 6’6”-6’7”. The growth charts only works for kids who hit puberty right at the average time. Both my husband and I hit puberty a little late. So when your parents go into puberty is not a good indicator either. So basically, you just have no clue how tall your kid will be.

13 is late. 14 is very late. 16 is extremely late.

13 and 14 are not late. 16 is.

Well when average age nowadays is closer to 10 then 13 is late!
