Flashing back to when, long before we had a kid, I'd come in from work earlier than DH and I'd sit down with a snack and watch "Wishbone" on PBS. Not animated but aimed at older elementary kids. who love to read. Adorable real dog imagines himself as characters in literature. It's a hoot, smart, funny, sweet, has a terrier wearing costumes, and I felt no shame watching it. I miss "Wishbone." Guess your DH and I are both weirdos to OP!

I don't doubt that some cartoon/animation can often have artistic quality, but it being a primary or major interest is seriously weird and hard to overlook.
