Insane! People have been stuck on I-95 near Fredericksburg going on 12 hours. How is this not national news?

It is national news - the Today show just had a long segment on it. There is an NBC correspondent stuck in the mess reporting from his car.

Yep, hopefully the various state/local transportation officials rip OPM a new one and they change it.

Seriously!!! I really feel for people who are being asked to report to work in this. We got nearly a foot and there are a ton of trees down blocking roads and affecting power lines.

OK. So let those people take unscheduled leave. Really, they should grant them admin leave. But they don't need to close or even delay opening facilities tomorrow.

Yeah, I'd be okay with admin leave. It's being forced to take annual leave because of factors outside your control (road conditions + inability to telework) when you'd gladly work at home if allowed.

Same. I'm a teleworker so it doesn't affect me but DH is looking at our unplowed road and wondering if his car can make it out anyway. More likely he would just get stuck. He has a meeting that he thinks will still be on because everyone is super "dedicated." He has sufficient annual leave but it sucks for those that do not. I suspect there is a trust issue in allowing people to use admin leave in these situations, but why not allow a couple floating weather days for employees to use in these situations where maybe it makes sense to open overall but a lot of folks will not be able to make it.

I wish Jeff would just ban/delete posts that deliberately spread misinformation. You know damn well that an OPM closure only applies to those scheduled to report in person. Life-or-death emergency employees already have mechanisms in place to ensure staffing through inclement weather (such as sleeping quarters on site or dedicated transportation to ferry people from home to worksite). So really the OPM closure just applies to those who have work that can only be done in person but isn't necessarily urgent or essential. Teleworkers have had the luxury of keeping themselves safe at home for almost two years now. Give the daily commuters a darn break when driving in could literally get people killed (and let's not even talk about the certainty of exposure to omicron while in the office).

Standing ovation. Thank you.

I am not a fed and I’m so angry with my employer. They don’t technically have a telework policy, except when it suits their needs. For yesterday, they sent out an email that all teleworkers should telework. For today, they send out an email stating there’s a three-hour delay and no telework option.

Livid.

How many are planning to burn a sick leave day? It seems like such a shame to let the day go to waste and not make memories with the kids.

Seriously, there have been dozens of posts on this and yet some people still can’t seem to get it through their thick skulls. The OPM delays/closures don’t apply to most teleworking feds. However there are 10s of thousands of us whose jobs require reporting to the office in person on a daily basis (plus many non feds whose place of work follow OPM guidelines). If that doesn’t apply to you then move along.

Correct.

It does, however, screw over teleworking parents who send their kids to child care centers located at federal facilities. Since they're teleworkers (involuntary teleworkers, in some situations), they're expected to work. Under previous rules, parents could get admin leave, since the weather closure of the child care center, and the resulting presence of the kids at home, meant the home was no longer an approved alternate worksite. However, the OPM interpretation granting that allowance made it contingent on the agency having a policy that precluded parents from working with kids at home. Most agencies I'm aware of got rid of that rule during the pandemic. But you're still expected to take leave for any time spent caring for the kids. That's not a big deal if you're kids are school-aged, but if you've got infants/toddlers around, that's going to be the whole time.

We’ll, the Wizards got their game in tonight, so I think a delayed openingvtomorrow is reasonable. BTW, I’m a fed and would love another snow day, but let’s be reasonable. If it’s that bad, take leave.

What is "most" based on? Do you have the actual numbers to back that up?
