I am the oldest of old and still very much plentiful money and YOU are wrong. Unless such folks are on the slide to poverty, the point of having money is to be able to put the best things in your body, including booze. I have friends with 10k plus bottle wine collections and high end bourbon and scotch rooms are their farms. No one hits the vodka.


You're not a true old school WASP if you aren't stingey af. True, NE old money WASPs (original industry families) don't spend a dime without regretting it.

Hence, they love cheap vodka. Trust me, I wnet to Deerfield in the early 80s.

They're not Russian, so I doubt they're tipping back chilled straight shots of vodka (my childhood friend's rich Russian dad and his friends used to do this).


How old are you?

You hear a story about one pair of alcoholics (which is not even confirmed) and now are trying to verify that their behavior is generalizable to "rich people." And you are asking posters to this anonymous board to confirm your hypothesis? Really odd logic.

This is such an entertaining,informative thread…thought I would chip in my two cents. I am a retired 60 something boomer, and have pretty much drank every adult beverage known to the human race. I am also a certified mixologist (a proud graduate of Bartenders Academy!😉). Before I retired about ten years ago, I began experimenting with various fermented beverages, and came up with what has become my “go to” drink: An 8 oz glass of cheap merlot, with a jigger of Smirnoff. I call it….a Smerlot. Your welcome.

Furthermore, one never drinks gin except when it’s warm outside and you can get the good tonic, which is not allowed in the US. For example, the last time I had a gin and tonic, I was on safari staying in a 10k per night resort. Pappy. Could you be more predictable and cliche. This thread is about what spirits older male and female rich wasps(?) daily drink, vodka to be more specific. Nobody is daily sipping a $1,000 bottle of rare bourbon. If someone is into bourbon, even if they're multi-millionaires, their daily sipper is going to be along the lines of Eagle Rare ($40), Four Roses Single Barrel ($50) or Blanton's ($75). Bourbon is not an expensive or an especially complex spirit. It's trendy over the last 10 years, hence your hard-on for it. 60-something wasp functional drunks ain't sipping bourbon out of a glencairn all day, ya dork.


Since I am around old rich wasps and other old rich people all the time, I am telling you that old rich don’t drink Vodka. Maybe the once rich or the wannabees do but folks at the club, the farm or the plane going to wherever, do drink bourbon and scotch and high end wine. I know this bc this is my reality. You are just speculating, guessing. I mentioned Pappy bc I knew you would have heard of it (but never have had) and bc it so readily refutes your bourbon comments. But I will run an experiment - when I can get to the Union or the Links or even to Whites or a gathering at one of my places with some of my old rich friends, I will do a vodka check and get back to you.
