I’m vaccinated, but my 14yo son is not. Not a chance we’ll be eating anywhere in DC. Either NoVa or MoCo for now (until MoCo passes the same nonsense).

Honestly, I'm relieved to hear this. We're all going to have to pitch in to get through this and the farther those that refuse to pull their weight are from my city the better.

We also have serious reasons to be concerned for business owners, but public health needs to remain the higher priority.

So... don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out.

Cool. Some businesses may disagree. And some maybe not, of course.

I have a family of 5 and we go out to eat once a week. And a few times a month, we go out with my in-laws. Sure, we’re not the Bidens, but we probably spend a decent amount of money every month dining out.

If there are a few other families like us, who opt out of DC and go to NoVa, then I would imagine it makes a little bit of a difference. I guess, we’ll see.

Lol please don't come to NOVA. We are a family of 6 and spend thousands per month eating out, and don't want your unvaccinated heathens in our restaurants

As a DC resident I feel that. The vaccine mandate makes it considerably more likely that I'll be indoor dining again once the Omicron wave subsides. Not just because I'm going to feel safer in those spaces, but also because any space becomes more pleasant once you remove the customers who self-evidently don't give a crap about others.

With you. I am vaccinated, but do not support medical coercion, something that I was taught in all of my Medical Ethics classes. - MPH

It’s funny that you added MPH as if that gives greater weight to your opinion, rather than further undermining the reputation of the degree.

This degree has not been undermined by anyone with real Public Health credentials. Only those that play one on TV, like Fauci. He has done a real disservice as he politicized the COVID response and doubles down on coercion as a method for changing health behavior.

Honestly, coercion is required when people won't otherwise do their part. That's the way matters of communal concern need to get handled when lots of people are idiots who can't delay gratification or prioritize the common good. Those of us who are not short-sighted idiots can't be expected to let you do you if "you" means hurting other people.

As if things aren’t bad enough for DC businesses. This will just make it worse.

That is regrettable but the only other responsible decision possible would be to close most of these businesses. They simply can't be allowed to continue to operate with zero precautions.

The staff deserves vaccinated guests. I agree.

If that is what the staff or business owner wants, they should be able to do this.

Vaccinated guests can still transmit Covid. If you are truly worried about the wait staff, you should just close indoor dining again.

I’m not the mayor, or a restaurateur; but if I were I’d have required vaccines by midsummer. That’s when most were eligible. Customers that feel safe eating are repeat customers. I would absolutely close indoor dining as of thanksgiving. .

I think we know why you’re not a mayor or restaurateur.

Absolutely. I’m not even far-right. I used to be a full-fledged Democrat. But these kinds of things have turned me away from the Democratic Party and I am definitely more of an Independent voter.

Covid does not care about your politics.

What does that even mean, lol? I guess you’re right, but some politicians might care about their jobs. And really, politicians shouldn’t be making health policy decisions. I know very few politicians who have a background in medicine or even a degree in Biology.

It might make a difference but the economic impact is merely a shame, not the priority in a public health emergency. Also, "not the Bidens"? What's that supposed to mean? Your insertion of irrelevant political stuff seriously undercuts your argument and suggests your more likely a troll with her own agenda than the local parent you pretend to be.

So sensitive about Biden. I wonder why.

Maybe because Biden is a hot mess? Enough so that I feel bad for him!

That’s a gym I’d happily support. Especially with a mask being required.

I just meant that we’re not wealthy or important. Just a regular family. That’s not really political. You can substitute ‘We’re not the Trumps’ if that makes it more palatable.

If businesses are supporting this vaccine mandate then you are probably correct in saying that it’s a good idea. They’ll be the ones doing (or not doing) the enforcement.

Also, DC should probably have to justify how this even makes a difference during this ‘public health emergency’. How, specifically, does a vaccine mandate save lives. Without a vaccine passport, is there really enough of a negative impact to justify this burden on local businesses.
