I don't have a problem with what she said. While I never hit my kids, I'm a master of the arm grab. I'm not about going for the face, but if you use your hand to strike I will immobilize that hand with a quickness and get in your face about how inappropriate and unacceptable that is. Squirm all you want, but I've got that hand and won't let go until you chill out and learn to NEVER, ever do it again. Hitting back seems like you're meeting them on their level, but immobilizing them and making them chill out I find ok. Call me an abuser, I don't care. By 10 especially they need to learn this lesson.

I don’t think hitting is always wrong. We never spanked or hotbed our kids but I definitely want them to know self-defense and that they can hit back if someone hit them.
A parent is a trusted and safe person and should never hit their child. Of course you can hit a random attacker.
