I watched her tell a group of people how retirement is good, but boring.
Why lie about this? I asked her when she is going to tell people and she said soon. She makes up lies when she is working and unable to attend family functions.
I just think it's weird. Why lie?
I think what is more weird is that not only do you care, you went out of your way to post about it.
It was weird watching her lie about being bored becaude she retired and she lied about how she fills her day. Either discuss work or do don't. Its weird to pretend she is bored at home....why tell HALF a story?
What is her new job? Is it the "bagging groceries" type, or big-bucks consulting type?

Unfortunately she wasn't ready financially to retire, so she still needs income. She's embarrassed, and if she tells people she has another full time job after "retiring" they will ask why she didn't just stick with her old job and she'll have to explain whatever it was that happened (the screw up.)
This..it doesn't ev n have to be a "screw up."
One of my older friends worked for a small company for 20 years; she loved her job and needed to keep working until 70, but once people turned 60 and their health insurance costs started to go up, the manager would start harassing the older employee to get them to retire faster. She lasted longer than most, to Medicare age but had to find another job after "retirement." But she didn't care who she bad mouthed her old company to, they did deserve it.

Your sister is having an affair with her supervisor. She also has a drug problem which she is hiding.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any other question about your family and/or your life.

He has a job? Then honey, he is not retired. I would also think he is a liar if it came out only after probing.
He is retired and gets $8000/mth after tax pension plus subsidized healthcare.
He will always Piddle around with some little job.
Enlisted/20 years get around $1K a month. $8K would be fantastic. Only high level officers get that much. You clearly don't get the difference from enlisted and officers and 20 vs. 30 years. You get a pension off your salary which doesn't include the housing and other allowances so its very low.
He doesn't have a little job. He has a real job that he does very well with. It wasn't worth staying in the military longer.

Because she has some reason she feels it is important to keep it private. I'm wondering why you as her sister approach this as "it's weird" rather than discussing it with her with compassion and curiosity.
