Syracuse graduate here, and I agree completely. I told my kids they could apply if they wanted to, but I wasn't paying the exorbitant cost for an average education.
Who are big Syracuse alums @ nyt, wapo, wsj, ft, Bloomberg, Atlantic, etc?
Off the top of my head….
Ted Koppel
Megyn Kelly (yuck)
Bob Costas
Lou Reed
Joyce Carol Oates
Alice Sebold (in the new lately)
Dick Clark
You left off Mike Tirico. He took over from Bob Costas in hosting the Olympic Games on NBC. He was on ESPN previously as an NFL play-by-play announcer.

Syracuse way too expensive and a risky investment. Good places include maryland, Florida, az state, Georgia, Ohio state. But honestly. It does not matter. Just learn to write and hustle to get internships.
Only go to a state school if you're getting in-state tuition. That drastically narrows down your options. No idea why you would pay full freight to somewhere like Georgia if you could get a better education from a private university for a similar or lower cost.
….because there are some state schools that are worth a premium and many private schools that are not.
If we're talking about full pay at Syracuse vs full pay at some random state school then, no, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And there are many more private schools even better than Syracuse.
Which privates are better than Syracuse for journalism?
