This is what my FIL does if we can't pick him up. He doesn't want to figure out uber. He'd rather get a taxi. My MIL wiil Uber if needed but not FIL.

When we do pick them up we NEVER park. They meet us at the curb. I'm not picking anyone up if it involves parking and going into the airport.

Yes, we usually take a cab from the airport because it’s simple to just walk out and get in the taxi line. However, when family visits we usually go pick them up. If it were rush hour they would probably just prefer to wait at the airport for a couple hours until we could get there.

How old is your parent? I would never expect my 70+ mother who rarely travels to navigate ridesharing or even a cab. It would be stressful enough for her to navigate both airports alone.

Yes, it’s disruptive to pick him up and change your schedule, but as our parents age, we need to take more and more care of them. This is minor compared to what’s coming.

I hate coordinating Uber @ DCA to head home. I grab a cab if my car isn’t parked there. Can’t your DH watch kids & you pick up dad?

I never pick up people at the airport, nor do I expect to be picked up. But I do hire an actual car service (the kind with a personalized sign) rather than make family members rely on Uber, since they aren’t always used to working that app.

I always pick up friends/family if at all possible. Parents, omg, yes. These are guests and loved ones! And, yes, I work and have kids. My H can do dinner and bedtime, tho.

we didn't know that it was going to be the day after Thanksgiving - now my brother is going to pick him up (but will have to drive 1+hour each way)

But an elderly parent, i get their request.

I have always picked up my parents from DCA/Dulles and they always pick me up when I fly home (unless i'm renting a car). The only time I have not done so is when they insisted on flying into BWI to save money (I live in Alexandria) despite my offer to pay the difference in air fare. As that was ridiculously inconvenient for me I made arrangements for them to take the train.

My in-laws are coming to visit and plan to stay in a hotel rather than with us. That's fine, but they also refuse to rent a car or Uber, and expect DH to transport them back and forth every day. They're 70 and FIL only recently fully retired, I didn't realize they would lose their self-sufficiency so quickly.

Haven't commented before, but the bolded would be a much larger issue for me than a parent that wanted a ride after a flight.
